Resource preservation
Responsibility for the environment
Environmental problems such as climate change or the loss of species and habitats also affect the tourism industry. It plays both roles: that of a contributor but also one of the affected. Maintaining an intact environment as travellers want to experience it on holiday is therefore something that's very close to DER Touristik's heart.
DER Touristik Hotels & Resorts participates in environmental protection training in its partner hotels on the subject of conserving resources, among other things, in water and energy consumption and the restriction of waste quantities. In 2013, we began implementing the environmental protection standard ISO 14001 in the Calimera hotels.
ISO 14001 specifies globally recognised requirements for environmental management systems. The aim of this standard is to systematically integrate environmental protection into the management and all areas of hotel operations.
Among others, these important requirements include:
- Adhering to legal and voluntary obligations
- Operational processes for the continuous improvement of
environmental performance - Creation of an environmental policy
- Creation of targets and measurements to improve environmental performance
- Employee training
- Regular internal audits
- Annual audit by an external auditor
Around 320,000 companies and organisations around the world (approx. 8,000 in Germany) are certified according to the environmental management system standard ISO 14001. Six Calimera hotels and two Iti hotels are currently certified to ISO 14001.
In addition to the introduction of the ISO 14001 standard, when selecting partner hotels DER Touristik Hotels & Resorts looks at whether franchise holders implement and support environmental protection measures in the hotel.
